A Saskatchewan pub is taking a bold stand by eliminating all US products, even down to their takeout boxes, as a form of protest. Bartenders have creatively adapted by avoiding American bourbon, and these innovative drinks have become quite popular. They are also seeking to source fresh produce that typically comes from the US, opting instead for offerings from Mexico.

To cope with the anxiety brought on by tariffs, I focus on what I can influence and the actions I can take. We’ve made the decision to source alternatives for our imports of bourbon, American whiskey, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, and various seasonal vegetables. Our goal is to find non-American suppliers for all of these products.
I hold no ill will towards our neighbors, but some of the language has crossed a line, disrespecting our nation. For instance, referring to our prime minister as merely a governor and threatening our sovereignty is simply unacceptable.
In response, we are doing our part to protest and ensure our voices are heard, while simultaneously supporting local producers. This comes at a time when our nation faces yet another unnecessary economic challenge, just as we are beginning to recover from the impact of COVID.
As of now, we’ve informed our suppliers that we will not be purchasing anything from the States, full stop. We are actively looking for Canadian or Mexican alternatives. Thankfully, when it comes to produce, there are options from Mexico that can replace nearly everything typically sourced from the US.
