Andrew Ng Launches New Vibe Coding Course
Andrew Ng, a renowned Stanford professor and former Google Brain researcher, has unveiled a course titled “Vibe Coding 101” aimed at beginners eager to explore how to utilize generative AI tools for coding and code management.
Vibe coding, a term introduced in February by OpenAI cofounder Andrej Karpathy, refers to the growing trend of automating software development through AI agents that respond to human prompts. While professional software engineers are leveraging AI to enhance their productivity, this trend is also appealing to individuals with minimal coding background.
Ng, an experienced figure in computer science, shared on X that he believes coding agents are revolutionizing the coding landscape. However, he emphasized that practical application of vibe coding requires effort. He stated, “Contrary to popular belief, effectively coding this way isn’t about merely prompting, accepting all recommendations, and hoping for the best.” Ng noted that crafting effective code with AI involves a more disciplined approach.
The Vibe Coding 101 course is a 94-minute video series developed in collaboration with Replit, an AI agent company. In this course, taught by Replit’s President Michele Catasta and Head of Developer Relations Matt Palmer, participants will gain introductory skills on using AI tools for vibe coding.
Ng pointed out that fundamental concepts will be covered to aid learners in deploying web applications with an AI agent. These principles include assigning agents one task at a time, crafting specific prompts, and providing a structured approach to debugging, which is the process of identifying errors in code.
Additional course aspects will demonstrate how an AI tool like Replit can streamline essential stages of software development, such as creating prototypes of applications or tools.
